What is PDF Editor?

The DocsSeva PDF Editor is a free online tool for making small, visual changes to a PDF without Acrobat: correcting a word or a figure in the existing text, adding a line of new text, placing a logo or a photo, drawing a signature, highlighting a passage, covering something with whiteout, or adding a clickable link. You open one PDF, work directly on its pages, and download an edited copy.

Existing text is edited run by run. In Select mode every piece of text the PDF contains becomes clickable; choose one and you can type a replacement, restyle it (font family, size, bold, italic, colour and alignment) or remove it. The editor paints over the original words with a white box and writes the new text on top in a standard PDF font, so the page looks corrected. Paragraphs do not reflow around the change, which is why it suits short fixes — a date, a name, an amount, a typo — rather than rewriting whole sections.

Everything happens in your browser. The PDF is opened and rendered on your own device with pdf.js, the edited file is built with pdf-lib in the same tab, and nothing is uploaded to a server. There is no account, no daily limit and no watermark added to the result.

It helps to know what the output is. Your original pages stay as they were — vector text and graphics, not flattened images — and your edits are drawn on top of them as new content. Added text is real, selectable text. Because covered text is only hidden under a white box, the original words are still inside the file, so this is an editor for appearance, not a tool for removing confidential information.

When should you use PDF Editor?

  • A letter, notice or certificate has one wrong date, name, spelling or amount and you do not have the original Word file.
  • You need to add a short line of text — a reference number, 'Received with thanks', your name — on a PDF someone sent you.
  • You want to place a company logo, a stamp image or a photo on a page.
  • You need to sign a PDF by hand with a mouse, finger or stylus and send it back.
  • You want to highlight a clause or mark up a draft visually before discussing it.
  • You need to hide a line from view on a printed or shared copy and a visual cover is enough.
  • You want to add a clickable link to a website on a page.
  • A page is upside down or a blank page crept in, and you want to rotate or delete it while you are editing.

Benefits of using PDF Editor

Change the text that is already there

Click any text the PDF contains, type the replacement and restyle it. Useful for the one-word corrections that otherwise mean hunting down the source file.

Everything in one place

Add text, images (PNG or JPG), freehand signatures and drawings, highlights, whiteout, rectangles, ellipses and links, then rotate or delete pages — without switching tools.

Private by design

The PDF is opened, edited and saved inside your browser tab. It is never uploaded, and nothing is kept after you close the page.

Undo, redo and find

Up to 60 steps of undo and redo (Ctrl+Z / Ctrl+Y), and a search that jumps to the first page containing a word.

Works on phone and desktop

The layout adapts to small screens, and drawing and signing work with a finger or stylus.

Free and unbranded

No sign-up, no trial, and no DocsSeva watermark on the file you download.

Common problems & how to fix them

I cannot click on the text of a scanned page.

A scan is a picture of text, so there is nothing to select. Run it through PDF OCR first to add a text layer, or cover the area with whiteout and type the new text on top.

The download fails with an encoding error.

Added or replaced text can use Latin characters only. Hindi and other Indian scripts, the ₹ sign and symbols such as ✓ cannot be written by the editor's built-in fonts. Write 'Rs.' instead of ₹, or add such text as an image.

My WebP image makes the download fail.

Convert it to PNG or JPG first with the Image Converter, then add it again. The editor can write PNG and JPG images into a PDF.

A password-protected PDF will not open.

Remove the open password with PDF Unlock (you need to know the password), then open the unlocked copy in the editor.

The new text runs past the original line.

Replacement text keeps the original starting position and does not wrap. Keep the replacement close to the original length, or reduce the font size slightly.

I refreshed the page and lost my edits.

Edits live only in the open tab until you download. Download as soon as you finish, and keep the tab open while you work.
