Before you submit
- NTA gives file-size limits but no pixel or centimetre size, so the tool keeps your photo's shape. Crop it first — the Passport Photo tool does that and sets a white background.
- The postcard-size photo was an upload in 2024 and 2025 but not in 2026: bring printed copies for the admit-card proforma instead.
- The 2026 bulletin contradicts itself on finger impressions (10–200 KB on the upload screen, 50–300 KB in its instructions), so this page aims inside both. Check your year's bulletin before you apply.

A JPG between 10 and 100 KB. Sites quoting 4–30 KB or 10–50 KB are repeating the 2024 and 2025 bulletins.
NTA does not set one. It asks for 10–200 KB, a white background and your face filling about 80% of the photo, so crop to that and let the file size fall inside the range.
Not in 2026. The form now captures a live photo instead; the 4 × 6 inch postcard photo is a printed copy you paste on the proforma downloaded with your admit card.
It varies, so the tool aims about 3% under the upper limit and, where there is a lower limit, just above it in 1,024-byte KB. The file is accepted either way.
