US Visa Photo Resize (600 × 600, DS-160 & DV)
The DS-160 visa application and the Diversity Visa entry both take a square JPEG photo no larger than 240 KB. The DS-160 accepts 600 × 600 up to 1200 × 1200 pixels and the DV entry exactly 600 × 600, so this page makes 600 × 600, which both accept.

Before you submit
- The photo must not be digitally enhanced or altered: the State Department rejects backgrounds cut out with retouching tools, filters and slimming. Stand in front of a plain white or off-white wall instead of using a background remover.
- Hats are allowed only when worn daily for religious reasons, and headphones not at all. The State Department warns that most webcams and phones cannot give images of sufficient quality, so have someone take the photo from at least 1.2 metres (four feet) away in good light.
- If the DS-160 confirmation page shows an X where your photo should be, the upload failed; bring one printed 2 × 2 inch photo to your interview.
- JPEG compression may be at most 20:1, which for a 600 × 600 photo means a file of at least about 54 KB, so this page keeps it above 60 KB. Reusing a photo from a previous DV entry makes you ineligible.

240 KB, as a JPEG. The page aims a little under it, and keeps the file above about 60 KB so the photo is not compressed more than the 20:1 the State Department allows.

No. It crops the centre of your photo to a square at the right pixels and file size. Frame your head first so it fills 50–69% of the height, and compare it with the official composition template.
